In today’s times having a KVM (keyboard, video, mouse) is vital for keeping on top of your daily business operations. In it simplest form, KVM switches allow you to connect to computer devices, such as PCs, servers, and workstations, using a keyboard, video monitor, and mouse, and switch between them to control multiple computers with a single set of input devices.

A KVM can be a lifesaver for you and your company as it will streamline and assist in making daily operations simple and easy to manage.

What is a KVM?

A keyboard video monitor (KVM) is a device that allows a user to control multiple computers using a single keyboard, video monitor, and mouse. The KVM switch connects to the keyboard, video monitor, and mouse, and then connects to the computers using cables. The user can then switch between the computers by pressing a button or using a software program, allowing the user to control multiple computers with a single set of input devices, saving space and reducing clutter.

It is also referred as KVM switch ( Keyboard Video Mouse Switch) which is a hardware device that allows multiple computers to share a single keyboard, monitor, and mouse. It is commonly used in data centers, server rooms, and other environments where multiple computers need to be controlled from a single location.

How is a KVM useful?

A KVM switch allows a user to control multiple computers with a single set of input devices, which can save space and reduce clutter. This can be particularly useful in data centers, server rooms, and other environments where multiple computers need to be controlled from a single location.

Additionally, it can also be useful in situations where multiple people need to access different computers, but only have one set of input devices available. This can be the case in a testing lab, classroom or training facilities, where multiple computers need to be accessed in a short amount of time.

KVMs can also be useful for remote management, as it allows a user to control multiple computers from a remote location, eliminating the need to physically access each computer. This can save time and increase efficiency for IT professionals who need to manage multiple computers remotely.

Benefits of a Keyboard Video Monitor

There are several benefits to implementing a KVM including:

  1. Space-saving: KVMs allow multiple computers to be controlled from a single set of input devices, which can save space and reduce clutter. This can be particularly useful in small office environments where space is limited.
  2. Increased efficiency: KVMs allow multiple computers to be controlled from a single location, which can increase efficiency and productivity. This can be particularly useful in data centers, server rooms, and other environments where multiple computers need to be controlled from a single location.
  3. Remote management: KVMs can be useful for remote management, as it allows a user to control multiple computers from a remote location, eliminating the need to physically access each computer. This can save time and increase efficiency for IT professionals who need to manage multiple computers remotely.
  4. Multiple users: KVMs can also be useful in situations where multiple people need to access different computers, but only have one set of input devices available. This can be the case in a testing lab, classroom or training facilities, where multiple computers need to be accessed in a short amount of time.
  5. Cost-effective: KVMs are a cost-effective solution for consolidating multiple computers into a single, manageable system, which makes it easier to control, monitor and manage multiple computers from a single location, which can increase productivity and efficiency.

Overall, KVMs are a cost-effective solution for consolidating multiple computers into a single, manageable system, which makes it easier to control, monitor and manage multiple computers from a single location, which can increase productivity and efficiency.

Tired of in-house IT upkeep? Still unsure about what to choose from an IT provider? Here we will give you 6 reasons for using managed services in your business.

Computer, or IT in general, is always something unique since its birth. Moore’s law truly describes it perfectly. In layman’s words, it says that computer performance will always double every two years.

It means that every two years the IT industries will always have innovations. Meanwhile, in-house IT infrastructure will always be lagging. This could spell disaster for business, especially in the current digital environment.

One of the ways you can do to keep with the current digital environment is to integrate managed service into your business. Here, you can find what a managed service is and why you should use it.

What is Manage Service

First, let’s answer the question of “what is managed service?”

Manage service is a term that describes the outsourcing use of a third party in maintaining, managing, and administrating anything related to IT. It can be your infrastructure, security, or storage among other things.

In 2025, Statista projected that this type of IT service will reach a market cap of around $356 billion. It shows how businesses shift from in-house IT service to outsourcing others that specialized in it.

Small to medium business is the one that is most profited from this trend. It allows them to keep up and even compete with middle to enterprise-level within the digital market.

Why Use Managed Services?

Now that we have cleared the basics of what managed service is, we can immediately go to a more in-depth explanation of why you should use this service.

Generally, there are 6 benefits that you can receive from outsourcing your IT management.

1. Handled by Expert

Handling by the expert for your IT infrastructure will be the first benefit of using a managed service.

As previously mentioned, development and innovation within the IT world always come at a quick pace. This would result in some businesses being unable to keep up with the pace.

Meanwhile, MSP or Managed Service Provider has the sole focus on keeping up with the current IT development and innovation. Thus, they will have all the experts needed in operating an up-to-date IT infrastructure.

2. Low Cost

Businesses that use managed services can also reduce the spending needed to keep IT running. This could range from the infrastructure and especially the labor cost.

An agreement between business and MSP can also make sure that there will be no unnecessary service costs. This allows business to shift their expense model into that operating expense model.

3. Easy to Scale

There are times when demand in the business is high and there are times when it is low. Meanwhile, most of the in-house IT infrastructure will stay the way they are. It means that businesses risk overloading or even underloading their IT.

One of the benefits of using MSP is it allows businesses to adjust the IT capacity according to real-time needs. As such you can easily scale your service accordingly.

4. 24/7 Support

MSP will often provide 24/7 support for your business depending on the plan you choose. Thus, you can easily contact or request help at the moment’s notice. MSP with around the globe coverage will be much better in this regard.

5. Minimized Downtime

The experience of most in-house IT users is to fix something that has already broken. This could cost precious time and money to be wasted from the resulting downtime.

By using managed service, you can minimize such downtime with the help of an expert within the MSP. They will proactively maintain and secure your IT infrastructure.

6. Focus on Your Business

The biggest reason for using a managed service is so you can focus more on your business. Today, a growing business means growing IT requirements. This often results in a distraction from your core business.

A good MSP can offer you a flexible service model, be it as an addition to your current team or handle all of your IT needs. In this way, you can back to put your focus on developing and growing the business.

How Wowrack can Help You

With over 20 years of experience in the IT world, Wowrack stands ready to provide white-glove treatment for all of your IT needs. Certified experts, flexible service plans, and advanced tools will allow you to focus entirely on your business.

So, are you ready to advance your business? Let’s get started!

If you think about how much you depend on technology in your business you will already have added perspective as to the necessity of disaster recovery plans? The majority of businesses in this day and age are massively reliant on tech.

Whether if it is technology for storing information and data or tech for sending information and communicating with clients and customers, we all depend on our information technology systems. And although our technology is great and functions as it should most of the time, there can be issues where our tech fails to work or is impacted on.

This may occur through human error or natural disaster, however the consequence remains the same: you have a technology failure or disruption that can be a enormous detriment to the operation of your business.

Depending on the nature of your business, this tech outage might be minor or catastrophic. The process of recovering from a technology disruption is called IT disaster recovery, and if you do not have this in place, you may find it hard to recover fast enough to see minimal impact on your business. There’s certainly value in understanding some of the key ways in which disaster recovery can save your business and some of the key scenarios in which disaster recovery may be required.

Why Disaster Recovery?

Every day you rely on technology to function and communicate with your employees and customers. If you suddenly lost access to this information what would happen? Would you lose profits? Would you lose the capacity to operate your business? Put simply, a disaster recovery plan allows you to endure minimum downtime and to get your business up and running again following a ‘disaster’ – delivering peace of mind and ongoing profitability.

Bottom line is that the world is unpredictable and anything can happen. You can have all the insurance in the world but if you have mission-critical functions and applications, your insurance isn’t going to get your systems online again. The only thing that can protect you against an outage is disaster recovery.

How Disaster Recovery Can Save Your Business

1. There’s a catastrophic hardware failure

One of the biggest concerns a business owner has is keeping their server room operating at an optimum temperature and ensuring that data management is performed safely and with plenty of backups. It is essential to both back up your business data in a secure location, and to also implement mission-critical functionality that can be rolled out in the event of a catastrophic hardware failure. This might be something as simple as identifying a core/skeleton staff that can operate the business at a minimum and ensuring that a remote location is available to perform these functions.

2. There’s a natural disaster

Technology has come a long way when you think back to even the turn of the century, nowadays we’re far more likely to have data and significant information stored in the cloud which makes getting online a lot easier. Again though, you need to consider what would happen if your office had a fire or flood and how you would continue to serve your customers – even at a minimum – and ensure that this is available to you.

3. You experience human error

No one is perfect. Not even us – though we’re pretty close. From time to time there will be a human error which takes place, whether it’s a file that’s deleted or a system that’s corrupted through someone’s mistake. If this happens it can be just as catastrophic which is where a data recovery system can be invaluable.

4. You get hacked/corrupted

In today’s day and age, no one is immune from the long fingers of cyber-crime. It is imperative for both the successful operation of your business and your business’ reputation to ensure you have comprehensive disaster recovery systems in place in the event of a hack.

Get in Touch with Us Today

No business is immune from disaster and from the threat of losing access to data and information. When you have a disaster recovery plan in place, you can ensure that any loss of data and access is minor and temporary. A good disaster recovery plan works to repair confidence in your business and to ensure profitability.

At Wowrack, we work with you to ensure that your disaster recovery plan is comprehensive and suitable for your business. We make sure you have everything you need, and nothing you don’t. Contact us today and get peace of mind with us.

With a growing employee headcount and limited IT staff, Global Harvest Foods was looking to move its server infrastructure, hosted in a sub-optimal environment to a managed private cloud in an effort to free up time and resources while also supporting growth.

Founded in 1982, Global Harvest Foods is a family-owned leading manufacturer of wild bird and small critter food and is one of the top 100 exporters of all the US in doing so. They are responsible for brands like Morning Song and Audubon Park, which are sold in grocery stores, pet stores and wholesale retail stores all around the country. Global Harvest also produces this same high quality wild bird food formula under other private label brands.

With over 250 employees, and 6 production facilities across the US, shipping hundreds of millions of pounds of bird seeds via truck and train freight, supporting 140+ different products, having critical systems functioning any less than 100% of the time is unacceptable.

Discover below how Wowrack assisted Global Harvest with deploying a Active-Active High Availability environment completely with Wowrack’s personalized & comprehensive Managed Services.

Phishing attacks are some of the most basic yet effective weapons used against organizations who do not have an anti-phishing strategy.  They often lure in their victims by appearing urgent or work-related in nature and, oftentimes, organizations do not have a proper defense to combat this growing threat.

For this reason, it is important that your organization adapt a 3-part anti-phishing strategy so that your risks are reduced.  These three items include technical/IT infrastructure controls, end-user controls and a flow to handle attacks in the future.

STEP 1: Technical/IT Infrastructure Controls

The first part of the equation is to make sure you have the proper top-level protections in place before any phishing travels down to the end-users.  This must be done on the server infrastructure level. Services such as Hosted Email Security gateways help with this and provide a host of other benefits that are essential for any company who cares about productivity and security.

Companies can also consider two-factor authentication for publicly-facing pages that employees have access to. If a company is large enough, it is inevitable that an employee falls for a phishing attack. Two-factor authentication can help protect company assets in the event that this does happen.

STEP 2: End User Controls

The next part to consider is user education and remediation.  For the threats that make it past the proactive measures in Step 1, your next layer of attack should be from employees themselves.  Employees should be trained on what to look for and have a thorough understanding of policies regarding how tasks are processed. For example, if ordinarily you receive reports or invoices in a certain manner, employees should be instructed to not open emails that do not fit that standard.

Past the education process, some companies opt to bring in email security experts to do pen-testing and bait their employees to see who and how a user interacts with a potential phishing email.  These employees should not be punished but instead undergo further training.

STEP 3: Establish a Flow

Once an email has been flagged as a phishing attack, it is important to take immediate action against it.  Establishing a flow on how to handle these attacks can ensure that the threat is eliminated and filtered in the future.

A simple flow may include:

  1. A process for easy reporting by employee to IT Team
  2. Investigation by IT Team to see if it is an attack and performs a block
  3. Adding email from IT team to Security Suite so that the Infrastructure controls can learn and improve

Data storage and availability is one of the most important components to virtually all businesses in this day and age.  From our websites, HR/payroll, general data repositories, databases and beyond – each data set may have a different level of importance to an organization in terms of availability, number of backup copies, need for geo-diverse data sets etc.

At Wowrack, we help customers day-in and day-out with assessing the importance of this data by analyzing lost revenue as a result of downtime, need for high availability, geodiversity, and also managing the switchover process in the event of downtime.

What is backup?

Backups are one that most are familiar with.  Backups are data that is copied to another environment, rather which be another disk, a cloud environment, or tape.  Backups are your cheapest insurance option, protecting you from theft (cloud backups are best for this), employee accidents, crashed hard drives and corrupt RAID’s.

What is disaster recovery?

While similar to backups, its very different in nature.  Disaster Recovery focuses on more of business analytics, where your data sets are assessed in terms of recovery time (RTO), recovery point (RPO), cost of downtime, and the recovery solution to fit the organizations goals.

Active-Active

A great follow up to disaster recovery is Active-Active vs. Active-Passive.  In an A/A scenario, upon a critical failure, downtime is counted in milliseconds to seconds.  In A/A, you typically have an exact replica of your primary production environment in a different data center (we have two POP’s in Seattle for this purpose, in addition to 8 other POP’s around the world).  In this case, synchronous replication is in play.

Active-Passive

Active-Passive is less complicated than A/A and less expensive than an A/A setup, however there is generally more downtime associated with this model and there is also the potential for data loss should a critical failure occur.  This option is generally the most cost effective choice and is easy to implement.  In this case, asynchronous replication is in play and downtime is usually as long as it normally takes to boot up a system.

What solutions is right for you?

Wowrack can help with the assessment of your infrastructure and help with determining what option is best suited for you in addition to what the most cost-effective and efficient way to deploy is.
